Love what you've done hair Sir and would love to know how you did it. Congrats on your hundreth post.
Fotografa: Cheers Ada, in response to ur question I really hope this makes sense smilesmile

I really can't take the credit for the lighting effect, as it was pre-determined smile Because she was playing a guitar, occassionaly she had to lean into the microphone, which meant part of her face and hair was catching the spot light, but not the rest of her body.
So I switched off my flash, timed the next time she leaned in, and took a spot meter reading off the side of her face, recomposed the shot to include part of her body using that same meter reading and snapped.
This in effect created an image where the background and lower part of the image is dark and part of her hair and face is exposed for the spot light.

PP - Convert to BW using Channel mixer. Levels: to increase the shadow and midtone areas. Increase contrast, but making sure the hightlights were not over blown (ie burnt out on her face). And finally dodge and burn abit to get the background areas completely dark.

I really hope this all makes sense, and must add that because it's a live show where u really have no control over what's happening on stage. There is an element of luck in getting the shot, but u plug away and hope u've got it in the bag. And you won't know until u get home at 3am in the morning browsing through all those images smilesmile
smashing image indeed!

Fotografa: Thanks Dr. much appreciated smile

Very nicely the emotion you've captured and how you used the lighting to accent it.
