The Preacher Man - Brother Jero #3

"Religion is flawed because man is flawed..." Dan Brown - Angels & Demons

Brother Jero aka 'Brother Jeroboam' is the name of the main  and  my favourite character from Wole Soyinka's brilliant  play 'The Trials Of Brother Jero'.  Lost count of how many times I've read the play over the years, but seeing this gentleman preaching in Hyde Park brought back fond memories of Wole Soyinka's colouful main character. Although I don't believe in this preacher man's views, which are based on a doctrine of a church  in Calabar, Eastern Nigeria, I do however respect his right and admire his unwavering faith in his belief. I will be posting a series of images of this really fascinating gentleman over the next few days.

Welcome to Speakers Corner, Hyde Park right in the heart of Central London. Come one, come all for enlightenment
, and be prepared to have your religious, political views and sanity pushed to the limit.

"..debate, humour and madness a place where there is no entry requirements, no rules of intellectual formality and above all, no class restrictions." Anon

What a wonderful image--such an expressive person! We have a tradition of preacher men at our local university's library entrance.
Hi Noordeen

Really enjoying your photos from Speakers' Corner - it's a fun place to take pictures. There are some more photos from there on my blog if you're interested.

All the best and keep up the great work.
Fotografa: Thanks Marcus.

Checked out your blog, amazing how we've both captured the same individuals, but come up with different interpretations, and you seem to have a preference for BW images. Do you still do street photography? Just a shame the corner these days seems to be missing and lacking real geninue characters.
Do you have any ideas or recommendations of where to capture good street photograrphy images in London, I've covered most of the South Bank, Convent garden & Trafaglar Sq already.
Hi there

Yep - still do street photography.

I know what you mean about Speakers' Corner these days - there aren't the same characters that you used to find.

Have you tried Oxford St? It can be a little busy but is good if you use a wide lens.

Another option would be Notting Hill carnival - it's great fun and there are loads of photo opportunities. I think it's on August 29 and 30 this year.
